Improving the energy performance of existing buildings presents both opportunities and challenges. Energy conservation requires investigation and cost-effective solutions related to the building, equipment, operations, and occupant habits. Some energy improvements require minimal costs and offer rapid returns while other energy saving options are considered investments, which must be financed or secured by guaranteed energy savings. This session discusses common residential and commercial building retrofits, their relative costs, leveraging tax incentives, and optimizing for the shortest return on investment.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, a Master’s in Civil Engineering and Construction Management, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and Sustainable Construction.
